Privacy policy

Last updated · April 2026

Dubbed treats your library, your conventions, your voice-actor meets, and the photos you upload as yours. Here is exactly what is collected, where it goes, and what is never done with it.

Who we are

Dubbed is an iOS app developed by Quintilian LLC. Contact: dubbedanimeapp@gmail.com. This policy applies to everyone who uses the app, worldwide.

What is stored on your device

Your library entries (anime and manga), watch status, ratings, notes, custom covers, convention logs, voice-actor meets and signatures, and badge photos are written to Core Data on your iPhone. None of it leaves the device unless iCloud sync is enabled. Signing out of iCloud keeps everything local.

What syncs through iCloud

When you are signed into iCloud, library data syncs to your private CloudKit container. That container is yours — Apple's iCloud privacy terms apply to it. The Dubbed developer cannot read your private container, and Dubbed does not operate a server that can. If you sign out of iCloud, the data stays on your device only.

What stays private — always

Custom cover art, voice-actor meet photos, convention badge photos, and your avatar photo are owner-private. They are stored only in your private CloudKit space and never shown to anyone else — not to people who follow you, not in any feed, not on your public profile. Friends only ever see public cover art (from Jikan / MyAnimeList) attached to your activity events.

What is shared with followers

Your public profile consists of your @handle, display name, bio, dere type, and avatar initials or character (no uploaded photo). Followers you have explicitly approved see the activity you have chosen to publish — for example, "@aoi finished Frieren" or "@aoi met Matthew Mercer." Every sharing category is off by default. You control each one from Connections settings, and photos never appear in any feed.

Third-party data sources

Cover art, synopsis text, character info, voice-actor data, and recommendations come from the Jikan API (which wraps MyAnimeList) and the AniList GraphQL API. These are read-only public sources — your personal data is never sent to either. News headlines come from public RSS feeds (Anime News Network, Crunchyroll, Tokyo Otaku Mode, Anime Corner, MyAnimeList News, Honey's Anime); tapping a headline opens it in Safari. Dubbed does not reproduce article content.

What we never do

We do not sell your data. We do not run third-party analytics SDKs. We do not show ads. We do not read your photo library — when you pick a custom cover or voice-actor photo, you select it explicitly through Apple's photo picker, and only that photo is brought into the app. We do not track you across other apps or websites.

Children and families

Dubbed is rated for ages 12 and up. Children under 13 should not create an account. If you are a parent and learn that your child under 13 has used Dubbed, contact dubbedanimeapp@gmail.com and we will delete the account and associated data. The in-app Parental Controls feature lets a parent set a content-rating ceiling, hide specific titles, and turn off the social feed; those settings are locked behind a PIN set by the parent.

Your rights

You can export every piece of library data as JSON at any time from Profile → Export data. You can delete your account and all associated data from Profile → Delete account. If you live in a jurisdiction with additional privacy rights (for example, GDPR or CCPA), you have the right to request access to or deletion of your personal data by emailing dubbedanimeapp@gmail.com.

Data retention

Library, convention, and voice-actor data remain until you delete them or delete your account. Public profile records and activity events are removed from CloudKit Public when you delete your account or unpublish them. Deleted records may persist in Apple's internal backups for a short period per Apple's own retention policy, which is outside the Dubbed developer's control.

Changes to this policy

If this policy materially changes, the Last updated date above is bumped and an in-app notice is shown the next time you open Dubbed. Continued use after a change means you accept the revised policy.
